Daylily Jolly Red
Giant Description: Jolly Red
Giant introduced by P. Stamile in 1999. 8" x 2 ¼" x 1 ½ inch blooms on 68
inch scapes. 6 way branching. 56 buds. Unusual Form - pinched and twisted
crispate. "I dislike writing in superlatives such as the most ruffled, the
heaviest substance, etc. since it presumes the writer knows the entire world
of daylilies. In growing daylilies for 20+ years including the species
Altissima and the Challenger hybrids, I can say that I have never seen a
daylily as tall as JOLLY RED GIANT. JOLLY RED GIANT towers over mere 5’ tall
Altissima and Challenger hybrids and at 5’8" can be used in place of a small
shrub or tree. This is truly a fun flower for those who want bragging rights
for the "tallest". Being evergreen it may not grow as tall in the North but
here in the South the first scapes bloom at 68" and rebloom just shy of 6’.
Very strong well branched erect scapes." Pod sterile but pollen fertile.
Very slight fragrance. |
